I am one of those folks who exclusively lives by (to the best of my ability) what the Rambam recorded in MT, in terms of halakha. I believe you are on the right track, in terms of what the Rambam intended. However, as some of us are fond of saying, "we don't need more commentary on Rambam (per se); rather, we need compliance". It would be a terrible shame for this to turn into (just) another one of the many PILPUL sites on the Rambam. Surely, if there is/was a danger of drowning in the sea of Talmud, there is a also a danger (in today's times) of drowning out the Rambam, in the sea of post-Rambam pilpul. I think the real danger involves reading things about his purpose, that are simply not there. We do know his is original, early, LOYAL and true to the original oral law of the Sanhedrin. It brings out a depth and width of the oral law, that has never been repeated - (even) unto this day. Thus, it must be studied (as you noted) on it's own. His purpose for writing the MT is very clearly stated. I wouldn't dare steal your thunder. However, I pray that this site will remain true to his own stated words.

Rabbi Gamliel:
While I can not speak for Mechone Mamre, I have had the priviledge of years of correspondence with the "site admin" of that site (B"H). I know one thing for sure. He would certainly object to your categorization of following the Rambam as a "Yemenite Tradition". Not because it is not a tradition amongst them; rather, because it MIGHT suggest that one must be Yemenite to adhere to halakha (according to the Rambam's MT). Or that this tradition is exclusive to them. Anyway, I do see a time (on the horizon), where more and more people will gravitate towards the Rambam. I think this is inescapable. Not so much as their "rebbe". But rather, in the strong realization that only his record reamins true to rav Ashi and the Sanhedrin. To put it bluntly, he was not an innovator in any way(which did happen in all of the later law codes to some extant). Where he did introduce something new, he clearly qualified it as such. This is the true beauty of Rambam. For those who strive to follow the reality left to us by the Sanhedrin, he is the closet thing to a dream come true...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32971844.post-1290910733926781692007-10-24T15:23:00.000-04:002007-10-24T15:23:00.000-04:00kol hakavod!!http://www.mechon-mamre.org/i/aboutdr...kol hakavod!!

http://www.mechon-mamre.org/i/aboutdrk.htmAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32971844.post-29715412270385373962007-08-10T15:29:00.000-04:002007-08-10T15:29:00.000-04:00Aug 3 is a very nice post.Aug 3 is a very nice post.Rabbi Jonathan Sackshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06724954433302279666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32971844.post-49260372027135257462007-07-25T13:55:00.000-04:002007-07-25T13:55:00.000-04:00Dear Rabbi Maroof,Excellent post.
